Plywood Furniture Board, Particle Board And MDF

Publish Time: 2022-04-01     Origin: Site

There are many types of furniture boards, and if you want to choose a suitable board, you must first understand them.

Furniture particle board (Particle board) Particle board, scrap made of wood or other lignocellulosic materials, artificial board that is glued under the action of heat and pressure after applying adhesive.

Plywood (Plywood) is made by pressing the slices cut from the log according to the principle that the wood grain directions of the adjacent veneer layers are perpendicular to each other.

Density board (MDF) is a board made of wood fiber or other plant fiber as raw material, prepared from fiber, applied with synthetic resin, and pressed under the condition of heating and pressure.

Their production processes are different, and after a complete process, the flatness performance is good. Particleboard is made of crushed wood, and the thickness error of surface flatness is small. The surface of the multi-layer plywood substrate is smooth and smooth after the sanding and laminating process. After the MDF is heated and pressed, the surface is smooth and flat.

Stability: MDF is less stable. The interior of the particleboard is granular in a cross-staggered structure, which reduces the original internal stress and tension of the wood. The performance of each part is basically the same, and the lateral bearing capacity is good, so it is not easy to deform. The multi-layer board is made by pressing one layer at a time. The horizontal and vertical sheets are formed according to the principle that the wood grain directions of the adjacent veneer layers are perpendicular to each other to offset the tension and internal stress, and the load-bearing is good and not easy to deform . The stability of MDF is relatively poor, and in contrast, MDF has poor nail-holding strength. If the screw is loosened after tightening, it is difficult to fix it at the same position.

Moisture resistance: Multi-layer board is larger than particle board and MDF. In some areas with high air humidity, moisture resistance is particularly important. MDF has poor moisture resistance, and the internal structure of MDF is easy to swell and swell when exposed to water for a long time, and it is in a broken state. The deformation of wood has a great relationship with the moisture content, and it is also easy to deform when the ambient temperature difference is relatively large. Usually, the moisture content will gradually decrease after the sun is exposed, and the board will absorb the moisture in the air after the temperature goes down. Good moisture resistance can effectively reduce the time and effort required to maintain furniture when encountering these situations.

Limitations: Because the edges are rough and easy to absorb moisture, the edge banding process of furniture made of particleboard is particularly important. In addition, due to the large volume of particleboard, the furniture made of it is also heavier than other boards. And the interior is granular structure, which is not easy to be milled. It is easy to cause the phenomenon of violent teeth when cutting the board, so some processes have higher requirements on the processing equipment. Because the base material of MDF is powdered as raw material, it uses more glue than particle board, which is more likely to cause environmental problems. It is heavy and difficult to slice. Secondly, due to the high glue content of MDF, the internal structure space is small, and the moisture resistance is poor. If a piece of MDF is immersed in water for 24 hours, it is obvious that the four sides of the MDF are raised and deformed after more than ten hours.

The properties of particleboard, plywood and MDF are actually different, and their shortcomings should be considered when choosing. For example, particleboard is bulky, edge sealing and cutting are difficult, not easy to mill, and require higher processing equipment; MDF is bulky and has poor moisture resistance. It is easy to cause environmental problems; and plywood is light in weight, easy to process, and has good moisture resistance, which makes it a bright spot. Because plywood is widely used and has no special shortcomings, it is a good consideration in the furniture market.
