The veneer hot press used in the furniture industry basically adapts to the size of the wood-based panel (1220×2440mm), the surface pressure is usually 02~0.4MPa, and the corresponding total pressure is 120t. In addition to the main technical parameters of the hot pressing plate, such as the size of the hot pressing plate, the total pressure, the number of layers, and the pressure on the surface of the plate, there are other technical parameters such as opening, closing time, heating temperature and productivity, which should be determined according to different process requirements. 

The working process of the hot press for veneer can be divided into five processes: closing, boosting, maintaining pressure, releasing pressure, and descending. The main engine of the press can be divided into three parts in terms of function realization: heating system (providing heat source), hydraulic system (providing pressure and controlling the action of the press) and the press body (frame, control part)

How To Choose Hot Press Machine For Furniture Board

1.Heating system of hot press

(1) Comparison of heating methods

The heating method affects the selection of temperature, process control, and the quality of processed products when the hot press is used.

The traditional heating methods are steam heating and electric heating. Steam heating can heat up quickly, but it needs to be equipped with a pressure boiler. The pipeline pressure is high, and the steam is easy to condense into water, causing uneven temperature on the board surface. The cost is high, and the resistance wire is not easy to be replaced when it is used.

The advantages of heat transfer oil heating are: high heat capacity, uniform temperature, can be heated to a very high temperature under normal pressure, small heat loss, can reduce production costs, the disadvantage is that the heating speed is slow, and it is difficult to control the temperature. In the furniture industry, when the hot-pressing temperature requirements are not high, a hot water circulating furnace can also achieve satisfactory results, and the fixed investment and operating costs are very low.

(2) Hot pressing plate performance

The performance of the hot pressing plate can be evaluated from several aspects, the first is the use of the pressing plate material, the second is the processing accuracy, and the last is the arrangement of the medium channels in the hot pressing plate.

The hot-pressed plate is generally made of a whole piece of pressed steel plate through deep hole drilling, and is mainly used for oil heating and steam heating; the other is the form of aluminum plate on the surface of the welded pipeline, which is mainly used for electric heating. The use of a whole steel plate can avoid oil leakage caused by poor sealing, and at the same time has high rigidity and strength, but the hot-pressed plate is thicker; the latter is usually in the form of a thin plate, due to the stress generated during welding and processing, and requires high processing accuracy.

The thin hot plate is easy to preheat and control the temperature, but the requirements for the workpiece are high. The uneven thickness of the workpiece will cause the deformation of the plate and affect the quality of subsequent processing; the thicker hot plate is conducive to increasing the heat capacity and improving the strength and rigidity. But it will increase the size of the press and consume more steel.

When manufacturing and processing, it should be ensured that the flatness of the hot pressing plate and the upper and lower surfaces have sufficient parallelism. The roughness was 3.2 μm. The temperature difference should not exceed 2-3°C throughout the entire width of the hot pressing plate. If the temperature difference is too large, the moisture content will be uneven, the product will be easily warped, and the strength and appearance quality of the product will be affected.

The heating channels through which the heat medium flows in the hot pressing plate are generally not valued by the furniture industry. The correct circuit design should be based on the principle of facilitating the flow of the heat medium, facilitating the uniform heating of the board surface, and reducing the leakage of the heat medium. For the small press hot plate used in the furniture industry, the single-hole dual-circuit design is generally used, which can meet the requirements of use.

(3) Connection and sealing

The use of suitable connections and sealing elements is of great significance for heat transfer at high temperatures and pressures.

At present, the connection pipelines of the hot-pressing plate are basically mainly hoses, which makes the connection very convenient. In China, metal hoses are mainly used, and some manufacturers use imported Teflon hoses. Both methods can be used. Blue connection, the fatigue resistance of Teflon hose is better than that of metal hose. Asbestos rubber sheets are traditionally used as gasket materials, and new materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene, wound graphite, etc., have better sealing effects.

2. Introduction Of Hydraulic System Of Heat Press

(1) Process requirements of hydraulic system

The hydraulic system of the hot press has two basic work requirements: applying pressure to the workpiece and driving the hot pressing plate to achieve a specific movement. The stability of quick closing and pressure holding is an important index to evaluate the performance of hydraulic system.

Since the heating and curing of the glue should be completed in the pressure holding stage when veneering, the fast closing speed is beneficial to the process and efficiency. On the one hand, it can reduce the heating of the slab under non-pressure and prevent the surface of the slab from losing too much water. Causes warpage, and also prevents the pre-curing of the glue and reduces the quality of the veneer; on the other hand, it can shorten the auxiliary time and improve the productivity of the press. In order to make the press open and close smoothly, a mechanical synchronization device is generally installed or a hydraulic system is used to maintain synchronization.

(2) Hydraulic cylinder

The hydraulic cylinder is the core part of the hydraulic system, and most woodworking presses currently use plunger hydraulic cylinders. Large-diameter cylinder plungers are mostly made of alloy casting, which is characterized by high hardness, thick hardness layer, scratch resistance, and performance better than carbon steel heat-treated plungers; small-diameter cylinder plungers are mainly carbon steel heat-treated surface hard chrome plating , the surface hardness layer is thin.

Since the hot press usually requires a fast opening and closing speed and withstands impact pressure, the cylinder block must be made of materials with higher strength. For ordinary small diameter, long stroke hydraulic cylinders, seamless thick-walled steel pipes can be used to manufacture them. For some demanding cylinders, casting or forging cylinders can be used.

Usually, the work surface of the hot press used in wood processing and furniture manufacturing is large. In order to make the pressure distribution even, and considering the rationality of the structure layout, most of them use a multi-cylinder structure.

There are not many problems in the production of the hot press itself, but a large part of them lies in the hydraulic system, such as oil leakage and inability to maintain pressure. A lot of knowledge and requirements about the hydraulic system can't be described here, but it must be paid great attention when choosing.

3. Control system of heat press

The control system of the hot press mainly controls the work of the heating system and the hydraulic system, and its sensitivity and accuracy directly affect the accuracy of the press work. Due to the complex composition of the control part, it is usually a problem-prone part. For presses with complex functions, such as vacuum lamination presses, many domestic press manufacturers directly import foreign control systems, and at the same time minimize the use of low-reliability control components such as solenoid valves in the press.
